Finally fixed a 6V71 injector pop pressure issue that had me stumped for 3 days
Spent Monday through Wednesday chasing a rough idle on an old MCI bus in the lot. Turned out one of the injector pop pressures was 50 psi low because of a tiny piece of trash stuck in the delivery valve. Used a pop tester to catch it after I had already swapped the pump and rack. Has anyone else had a mystery problem that ended up being something that simple?

50 psi low from a piece of trash? Man, that is wild. I mean, you went through swapping the whole pump and rack before finding that little speck, that had to be frustrating. Idk how you kept your cool for three days on that.

Makes you wonder if the guys designing these pumps ever actually have to fix one themselves. Bet they never account for what happens after ten years of grit and grime building up. Three days is too long though, I would have given up after the first full day and just ordered a whole new line assembly. Might sound wasteful but sometimes it's cheaper than your time.

Agree with you on the design thing, like these engineers must be working in a lab with clean parts and brand new tools lol. But idk if I buy that a whole new line assembly is cheaper, you still gotta replace the old one and hope the new part is compatible. Unless you got a buddy at a parts shop who hooks you up or something. Most DIY guys I know would rather spend three days cussing at a pump than drop a couple hundred bucks on a gamble, especially if the rest of the rig is ten years old too. Guess it depends how much you value your sanity over your wallet.
