Yeah the click-and-pull thing is classic. I did the same with my lug nuts for years, felt like an idiot when I finally read the instructions.

My cousin used a butter knife to tighten screws on his deck for two summers straight. He thought it was fine until a whole section wobbled loose during a barbecue. We still give him grief about his "butter knife construction phase" every time we visit.
