Had a long talk with a fleet manager last week about oil analysis
He told me he catches 90% of engine problems before they fail just by sending in regular samples. I always thought it was a waste of money, but he showed me a report that caught a coolant leak 3,000 miles before it blew a head gasket. Has anyone here actually saved a motor using oil testing?

90% sounds like marketing hype to me.

@carr.lee might be right about that 90% number, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't been burned trying to wing it on maintenance before. My last truck's transmission gave out because I was too cheap to send in a sample, so your mileage may definitely vary with this stuff.
