I finally switched from conventional oil to synthetic in my fleet trucks

For years I ran conventional oil in my 2005 Freightliner FLD120 because I thought synthetic was too expensive. Last month I pulled the oil pan on a truck with 350,000 miles and saw sludge buildup that shocked me. My buddy at Cummins in Nashville showed me his fleet data comparing 100 trucks on synthetic vs conventional over 200,000 miles. The synthetic trucks averaged 1.2% better fuel economy and had fewer oil-related repairs. I ran the numbers and the extra $40 per oil change paid for itself in fuel savings alone. Has anyone else made this switch and seen similar results with high-mileage engines?

I dunno, have you checked how synthetic holds up in extreme cold starts...

120 weight synths turn to molasses below -30, I've seen cranks snap on the first turn. Give me a good 5w40 conventional any day for that kind of cold.
