Just lost $300 on a faulty injector puller tool
Bought a no-name injector puller off eBay for a 6.7 Powerstroke job last month. Figured it'd save a few bucks over the OTC kit my buddy uses. First pull on the #4 injector and the threaded rod stripped right out. Spent 2 hours with a torch and a slide hammer getting that injector out anyway. Now I gotta buy the OTC tool plus I wasted a day on labor I can't bill. Anybody else get burned by cheap specialty tools lately?

Oh man, that "save a few bucks" trap gets me every time (and I mean every time, I never learn). I bought a cheap ball joint press from Amazon for a Tacoma once, and the C-frame bent on the first joint. Ended up smashing my thumb with a sledgehammer trying to finish the job. That was a $40 lesson in why you don't cheap out on things that have to pull 10 tons of force. Your stripped threaded rod story is way worse though, at least my thumb healed in a week.

Yeah I think the real issue is the lesson never sticks. I bought a $30 torque wrench from Harbor Freight once and it was off by like 15 foot pounds. Snapped a bolt on my lower control arm and spent the whole weekend drilling and extracting. That wrench is now a paperweight in my garage so I can stare at it and remember not to be an idiot.
