Regenerated a DPF 3 times on a 2015 Freightliner, finally stopped pushing new ones
Everyone says just replace the DPF when it plugs, but I ran the same one through 3 regens over 8 months on a Cascadia that does short routes in Denver. Last regen cleared it down to 0.2 grams, way better than factory spec. Am I the only one who thinks shops push new parts to avoid the labor of a proper forced regen?

Did you ever think the reason shops swap parts instead of regenning is because the regen didn't really clear the DPF, it just reset the counter? Three regens in eight months on a short route truck tells me that thing is still clogging, just slower each time. A 0.2 gram reading might look good on a computer, but that doesn't mean the substrate isn't cracked or loaded with ash that no regen will ever burn off. The labor on a forced regen is cheap, but the diagnostic time to figure out why it keeps plugging is what shops hate, so they take the easy way out with a new part. If your truck runs clean for another two years, then you won, but if it goes into derate next month, you just delayed the same problem.
