TIL that a torque converter can fail just from sitting still too long
My buddy at a salvage yard in Phoenix told me he pulled a Cummins that had been sitting for 2 years and the converter fins were basically rusted into a solid lump, has anyone else seen that happen from long storage?

Buddy of mine left his old F150 sitting for 18 months in a humid carport. Tried to drive it and the truck just vibrated like crazy until the transmission finally gave out. Converter was full of rust sludge.

You know, that reminds me of this old flathead V8 my uncle had under a tarp in his backyard for like four or five years. He finally got around to trying to fire it up, and when he pulled the transmission dipstick, it looked like chocolate milk. The converter was completely seized up, wouldn't spin at all. Ended up just scrapping the whole powertrain, said it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to clean out all that crud.
