Unpopular opinion: Those cheap no-name turbo rebuild kits are actually fine

I spent 15 years swearing by factory parts until I put a $40 eBay kit in a 6.7 Cummins for a guy who couldn't afford the real deal, and it's been running strong for 6 months now. Anybody else had good luck with the budget stuff or did I just get lucky?

I get what you're saying about the $40 eBay kit lasting 6 months, but that's still pretty new for a turbo on a 6.7 Cummins. I've seen those cheap rebuilds start leaking oil past the seals around the 12-18 month mark more often than not. For the labor involved, it's usually worth spending the extra on a quality kit to avoid having to do the job twice.

Idk, I used to be all about saving money on parts but hearing stuff like this makes me rethink if the extra hassle is worth it. You might have just changed my mind on those cheap kits.

Heard a master tech say he had three come back within a year.
