Art teacher told me to stop blending so much in my digital portraits

She said 'let the hard edges do the work' and I thought she was nuts. Tried it on my latest piece and it actually gave it way more character than my usual airbrush mush.

Three out of four things look better with some rough edges left in.

Movies are the one that needs the polish. A rough cut on a film just looks like bad editing, not character.

Which one do you think is the exception that should be polished smooth? I've noticed that furniture with some wear usually has more character, but a phone case or a knife can just look neglected. Curious what you're thinking of specifically.
