Can we talk about those AI art generators everyone was hyping up?
Honestly, I thought they were just a gimmick until I saw a piece my friend made with Midjourney that looked like a real photo from a 1980s sci-fi movie. Has anyone actually made something decent with one, or is it mostly just weird, melted-looking stuff?

Did you ever figure out if the prompt or the luck mattered more?

I used about 15 different prompts one weekend and got the exact same weird blob monster in every single one. That was when I stopped thinking the prompt was some secret magic spell. I mean sure, describing things better probably helps a little bit, but I feel like these generators just have a mind of their own sometimes. You can type "perfect human hand with five normal fingers" and it still gives you a nightmare mutant. So honestly I think it's more about luck and just rerolling over and over until something decent pops out. People act like there's some ultimate prompt formula, but I've seen terrible prompts make amazing images and perfect prompts make garbage.

What kind of prompt did your friend use to get that 80s sci-fi look? I've seen some people get amazing, sharp results with very specific descriptions, like "neon-lit rainy Tokyo street at night, cinematic, 35mm film grain," but my own tries usually end up with a guy who has seven fingers or a cat with three eyes. Is there a trick to it, or is it just luck?
