I used to think digital painting was just for hobbyists, not real art

I saw a digital piece in a gallery in Austin last year that completely changed my mind. The detail in the brushwork was just like oil paint, but it had effects you could never do on a real canvas. Has anyone else had their view on a digital art style flipped like that?

Actually, it was in a gallery in Houston, not Austin. I remember because I was visiting family there. But your point is spot on. The skill and vision are what make it real art, not the tool. It is just a different kind of brush.

Oh man, Houston has some killer spots. You're right though, the tool doesn't matter if the person using it has no vision. It's all in the hands.
