Just realized I was ruining my prints by using the wrong color profile

I was getting prints back from the lab in Chicago and my reds kept looking muddy and dull. After six months of this, a guy at the local art supply store asked if I was using the Adobe RGB profile for my digital files instead of the lab's specific sRGB one. I switched my workflow and the next batch looked perfect. How many of you check your export settings before sending work out?

That's interesting, but my lab actually wants Adobe RGB for their printers. Guess it really depends on the place.

Got it, that makes sense. So is Adobe RGB the standard they ask for across all their print types, like fine art papers versus standard photo gloss? I've heard some printers are really built for that wider gamut, while others just convert it back to sRGB anyway and you lose the benefit.

My local pro lab in Austin actually lists their paper profiles, and yeah @craig.john, some fine art matte papers really need Adobe RGB to hit those deep greens.
