My 8 year old cousin called my art 'squiggly lines' and it actually helped me

She looked at my latest digital painting and said it looked like a rainbow threw up on a spider web, then asked why I never just draw circles. Suddenly I realized I've been overcomplicating every brushstroke instead of keeping it simple. Anyone else ever get a reality check from a kid?

Kids just see things so simply!

My 4 year old nephew saw a homeless guy on the corner and asked me why he was sitting on the ground. I said he probably didn't have a home, and without missing a beat the kid ran over and offered him his juice box. @the_amy kids really do cut through all the adult mental gymnastics we do about stuff being complicated or political. They just see a person who needs something and try to fix it.

Gotta admit I used to roll my eyes at the whole "kids are so wise" thing, thinking it was just adults being cute. But then my niece told me my cooking looked like "what a zombie would eat" and I realized I was way overdoing the spices. @the_amy got it right when she said they cut through the noise. They don't second-guess themselves, they just say what they see and it actually helps you notice what you've been missing. Made me start keeping my sauce recipes way simpler and now they actually taste better.
