My entire portfolio site went down for 48 hours right before a big gallery submission
The host had a massive server failure and my backups were on the same platform. Has anyone else had to scramble to rebuild their online presence from scratch?

Honestly seems like a bit of a panic over nothing. It's just a website, not the only copy of your actual work. Rebuilding a basic portfolio in a couple of days is totally doable with a simple template. The real lesson is to not keep your only backup in the same place as the live site, which is just common sense.

Ugh, that's a nightmare. I had a similar crash last year. I rebuilt the site on a simple static host and now keep a local backup on an external drive. It's extra work but the peace of mind is worth it.

Totally get what you mean. I used to think local backups were overkill until my kid spilled juice on my laptop and I lost a whole photo project. Now I do exactly what @olivia398 said, keeping a copy on a cheap external drive. It's a few minutes of work each week but man, the relief when something goes wrong is real. I don't even worry about it anymore.
