My friend's digital portraits went from flat to amazing in about 8 months.

He switched from just using the default brushes in Krita to making his own custom ones for skin texture. Anyone have tips for building a good brush set from scratch?

Totally get that. I spent a year just tweaking one brush for hair in Procreate, messing with the grain settings. What kind of textures are you trying to make?

Honestly, it's not that crazy. I got stuck on a single charcoal brush for months trying to nail rough sketch lines. I kept going back to the spacing and scatter settings every time it felt off. It finally clicked when I stopped changing five things at once and just tweaked the jitter.
