Overheard a gallery owner talk about how they pick digital art for shows

I was at a cafe in Portland last Tuesday and the person next to me was on a call. They said they only look at an artist's online portfolio for about 15 seconds before deciding. The big thing they check is if the image files are huge and high-res, like over 5000 pixels on the long side. They said low-res stuff gets skipped right away, even if the art is good. It made me go home and check all my own upload sizes. I had a few pieces that were way too small. Has anyone else had a gallery or client ask for a specific file size?

Used to think that was crazy but honestly it makes sense now. They probably need big files for prints or large displays.

Ever seen a billboard up close? The pixels are huge.

Ever notice how many things are designed to look good from far away but fall apart up close? Like cheap laminate counters with fake granite patterns that are just blurry blobs when you're right over them. Makes you wonder what else we're not seeing clearly until we get real close.
