Rasterbator project went sideways on me last night
I was working on a large showcase piece using Procreate on my iPad Pro - had like 6 hours into it. The file got corrupted when the app crashed and I lost almost everything because my auto-save was set to 30 minutes instead of 5. Had to start over from scratch but I switched to using layers more carefully this time. Has anyone else had Procreate just eat their work like that?

Eight hours is way too long between saves, same rule applies to backing up your phone and checking your furnace filter.

Man the furnace filter thing hits home. I set a reminder on my phone to check mine every 3 months after waking up to a cold house one winter. Cost me a weekend and a repair guy to get it fixed.

oh man that exact thing happened to me a few months back on a poster project. I had like 8 hours into this really detailed vector illustration and the file just corrupted out of nowhere. what saved me was switching to Affinity Designer because it has this autosave feature that backs up every 5 minutes by default. also I started keeping a separate backup folder on my phone using the Files app, so even if the iPad crashes I've got the last few versions. for the layers thing, I know it's a pain but I started naming every single layer and grouping them by color. it sounds extra but when something crashes you can rebuild way faster if you remember your layer structure. Procreate is great for painting but I swear it hates big files sometimes.
