Showerthought: My old 2018 portfolio site looked like a WordArt nightmare.

I finally updated it last month after a friend in Austin said it looked like a Geocities page. Now it's just a simple grid with five pieces and my contact info. How do you decide what to cut when you're showing your work?

I cut anything that took more than two sentences to explain. If a client needs a backstory before they get the piece, it's probably not doing its job on its own. What's the one piece you're still on the fence about keeping?

Tbh that "two sentences to explain" rule is solid. I had this one photo in my own portfolio that I loved but always had to give a backstory for. Ended up cutting it because if the work can't stand alone, it's just not ready. The piece you're unsure about is probably the one that needs to go.

Honestly, it's just a portfolio, not a life or death choice. If you like a piece, keep it.
