Everyone says work hard, sleep less for art. I used to agree. Then I made a piece for a show with no sleep. It looked wrong under gallery lights. People pointed out basic errors. Now I think rest is part of the process.
Last year I set a timer for 90 minutes right after breakfast and just focused on writing. That chunk of time worked way better for me than a whole blocked morning. It forced me to get right to the main idea instead of puttering around first. I still use that timer method for most of my creative stuff now.
