Tried free Procreate brushes vs a $15 set for a client portrait last weekend
I was working on a pet portrait for a repeat client and used the default Procreate brushes for the fur texture, but it looked too smooth and flat. Switched to a paid fur brush set I bought months ago and the difference in depth and realism was huge, the client even noticed without me saying anything. Has anyone else seen a big jump from using specialized brush packs over free ones?

Oh yeah the client noticing without you saying anything is the best feeling. I had a similar thing happen with a landscape commission where I switched to some paid cloud brushes and the guy asked if I changed my technique or something because the sky just popped more. It's funny how those little details can make such a big difference even if someone doesn't know what a brush pack is.

Wait, the client actually noticed without you even saying anything? That's honestly wild - I've used paid brushes before and they definitely make a difference but never had someone call it out unprompted like that.

Honestly I think it depends on the client. Some people just notice small things more than others. I've used those same cloud brushes and nobody ever said a word to me about it. Maybe it makes a difference sometimes but I think people read too much into it.
