Unpopular take: your showcase piece looks flat because you export at 72 DPI
I keep seeing people post their digital paintings on here with a caption like "4K render" and then the actual piece looks soft and washed out. Nine times out of ten the file was set up at 72 DPI from the start, so all that detail gets thrown away before anyone ever sees it. I started building at 300 DPI on a 4000 pixel canvas and my line work finally holds up when zoomed in. Does anyone else check resolution before they even start sketching, or am I being too picky?
Wait, people actually start files at 72 DPI for stuff they plan to post? That never even crossed my mind as an option, I always figured that was just for like... web graphics from 2005. No wonder so many pieces look soft when you zoom in.
