A client's complaint about my email headlines made me rewrite my whole approach
Back in 2019, I was running email campaigns for a small lawn care company in Austin. My open rates sat around 14 percent and I thought that was just normal. Then one client forwarded me a message that said, 'Your subject lines sound like a robot wrote them at 2 AM.' That stung, but they were right. I started testing plain, short lines that asked a question or named a specific problem, like 'Brown patches in July?' Open rates jumped to 22 percent within two weeks. Has anyone else had a blunt client comment that actually ended up improving their metrics more than any course or tool did?
