Hit 1000 email signups off a single blog post last week
I was just poking around my analytics Saturday morning and saw the number. I wrote a post about how I organize my social media calendar using just a simple spreadsheet template. Nothing fancy, no paid ads or anything. It got shared around on a few small business Facebook groups and just took off. Now I'm wondering if I should double down on that kind of content or try something totally different next month. Has anyone else had one random piece of content blow up way more than the polished stuff you spend hours on?

Honestly I used to think the polished stuff mattered more but this changed my mind.

Wait, was the short list post the one that had the baking tools on it? I've seen that exact thing happen with a few people I know who make content, and it's wild how often the simple stuff just works better than the overthought projects. The thing is, when you spend days on something you're probably trying too hard to impress people, but a quick list post feels more like you're just helping someone out real quick. That casual vibe makes it easier for folks to share because it doesn't come off as salesy or pretentious, you know? If I were that bakery guy I'd stick with those short lists but maybe mix in a longer post now and then when I actually have something interesting to say, not just because I feel like I should. The real trick is paying attention to what people actually click on and not fighting it when it's not what you expected.

Had a buddy who runs a tiny bakery blog and he spent three days on this super detailed post about sourdough starter science. Got like 40 views. Then he threw up a quick list of his favorite baking tools on a Tuesday afternoon and it got shared in some food groups and hit 5000 views in a week. He still doesn't get why but he's just making more of those short list posts now since that's what people actually want to read. What was the thing in your post that you think made people share it so much?
