My keyword tool saved my bacon during a rush hour blog swap
I was sitting at my kitchen table around 10 PM last Tuesday trying to rewrite a homepage for a local plumbing client. My old keyword research spreadsheet had a bunch of terms that just didn't fit anymore. I opened up a free trial of a tool called LowFruits and ran a quick search for "emergency pipe repair" in the Denver area. Found three low competition keywords that exactly matched what the client does. Sent the new draft in the next morning and the client said it was the first time a writer actually got their services right. Has anyone else used that tool for local SEO?

You said the tool "saved your bacon" and found "low competition keywords." I gotta push back on that a little. Those low competition keywords in a tool like LowFruits are just suggestions based on search volume and how many other sites are targeting them. They don't always mean real people are actually typing those phrases into Google. I've seen folks burn a lot of time chasing "low competition" terms that got zero clicks because nobody searched for them the way the tool guessed. For a local plumber in Denver, you're better off looking at what people actually ask in Google autocomplete or checking the "people also ask" boxes. That gives you real world language, not just algorithm guesses. Glad it worked out for you this time, but don't bet the farm on it.

Tell me you just wasted 50 hours on phantom traffic without telling me you wasted 50 hours. I've seen those "low competition" gems turn into digital tumbleweeds more times than I care to count. Feels like chasing a mirage that looks like water from a mile away.

Right? I feel personally attacked right now because I literally just spent three days optimizing a page for "best purple widget cleaner" and got ZERO impressions. I guess I'll go cry into my digital tumbleweed pile now.
