Rant: My $200 A/B testing tool gave me junk data for 3 months straight

I was at a marketing meetup in Austin last month and a guy from HubSpot showed me how their free calculator caught a 12% error in my sample sizes. Turns out my fancy tool was splitting traffic unevenly and I never noticed. Has anyone else had a supposedly premium tool just mess up basic math like that?

Is this the same kind of hidden flaw that ruins so many things we rely on? I started checking my home wifi speed last week and realized my router was throttling my connection by like 40% for no good reason, just a stupid default setting nobody tells you about. It's like with coffee makers too, I had a fancy one that was supposed to brew perfectly but it was actually just burning the grounds half the time because its temp sensor was off. We trust these tools and machines to do basic math or simple physics, but they hide their own little screw ups until you dig in and find them.

Yeah, the wifi thing is brutal. I switched to a mesh system last year and found my old router was running on a congested channel even though it had a dozen cleaner ones available. The default auto setting was just picking whatever was crowded. That coffee maker thing you mentioned reminds me of how much I hate appliance software that can't be easily recalibrated. I had a toaster oven that would cook everything unevenly because the firmware never accounted for thermal drift after a few months. It's like these companies put all their work into making the product look sleek and none into making it actually work right long term.

Manual channel selection is worth the five minutes it takes to get right.
