That one week where every email campaign I sent got flagged as spam

Last month I was having the worst week with my email marketing. I run a small online store for handmade candles out of my basement in Austin, and I use Mailchimp to send weekly deals. One Wednesday I sent a simple promo for fall scents and BAM, almost all my subscribers got it in their spam folder. I checked my sender reputation and it tanked to like 2.5 out of 10 overnight. Turns out my list had some old bounced emails I never cleaned up, plus I was using too many spammy words like free and guaranteed in my subject lines. I spent three days scrubbing my list and rewriting the template to be more personal with fewer links. Now I test with a small group first before blasting everyone. Has anyone else had their deliverability nosedive out of nowhere and how did you fix it?

Classic "free" and "guaranteed" tanking delivery.

@emery_flores nailed it honestly. I swear my subject lines were basically screaming "WE GOT FREE STUFF" without realizing it. I felt like such a clown when I finally saw what I'd wrote. And the worst part is I had been cleaning my list but just got lazy for like two months. One bad list of bounced emails and your whole reputation goes down the drain. Now I send like a test batch of maybe 20 people before I hit send on the full list. It's annoying but keeps me from having that panic moment again.
