The before and after on my email open rates after I stopped using Mailchimp is wild

I switched to a smaller email tool three months ago and my open rates jumped from 18% to 34%. Turns out Mailchimp was flagging my emails as spam even though I had permission. Has anyone else seen a weird drop like that just from the platform itself?

Yeah I had the exact same thing happen with my small personal site. Switched from Mailchimp to a smaller service called MailerLite and my open rates went from like 15% to almost 30% in the first month. Mailchimp has those big shared IPs and if anyone on them gets flagged it drags everyone down. I also noticed my emails were landing in promotions or spam way more often. The smaller tool actually lets me warm up my own domain too which helped a ton. If you're seeing a jump like that it's probably not just the tool itself but the deliverability setup they force on you.

MailerLite's solid for the price. Their free tier actually works too which is rare. The domain warming is key though. I did the same thing and it took about 2 weeks before my deliverability really stabilized. Also check your DKIM and SPF records. Most people skip that and wonder why stuff still bounces.

Double check your authentication setup too, I've seen people warm up a domain for weeks and still have issues because their SPF or DKIM was wrong the whole time.
