Unpopular opinion: content calendars are overrated for small teams

Was at a conference in Austin last month. Listened to a panel from a 2-person agency. They don't use content calendars. Just post what's relevant that day. Realized I was wasting 5 hours a week planning stuff nobody read. Anyone else ditch the calendar and just go with the flow?

Huh, I was the opposite. I used to swear by my content calendar, color coded everything, the whole deal. Then I saw a solo creator at a local meetup who just posts whatever hits her that day and she has way better engagement. I dropped my calendar two months ago and honestly, it's freeing. I waste way less time planning stuff nobody cares about.

The whole planning thing is a trap for small teams. You end up serving the calendar instead of serving your audience. Those scheduled posts feel forced and nobody clicks on them anyway. Real time posting lets you catch what people actually care about right now. I dropped my calendar last year and my engagement went up. Less time wasted on guessing what might work weeks from now.
