Vent: my email tool grabbed 1,800 bad addresses and my open rate dropped to 9%
I was sitting at my kitchen table in Boise last Tuesday night, uploading a fresh list into my email tool, when I noticed the send count was way higher than usual. Turned out 1,800 of those contacts were scraped junk from an old form, and my open rate fell to 9% by Wednesday morning. I went through the segments one by one and set up a double opt-in check with a 14 day cutoff, which cut that list down to about 600 real people. The next send hit 31% opens, so the cleanup did its job. Does anyone have a go-to way to spot bad addresses before they ever touch your list?
