Had a chat with a guy in Chiang Mai who said coworking spaces are killing real connections

He ran a hostel for 5 years and told me people just stare at screens in coworking spaces but in hostels they actually talk, so now I'm wondering if I should switch to cafe hopping instead or find a proper shared house, has anyone else felt lonelier in a coworking space?

Hostels force interaction (bunk beds and shared bathrooms, you know). Coworking spaces feel like a library with laptops instead of books. Cafe hopping might be better if you actually talk to strangers there.

Ever tried coworking spaces during their social hours instead of peak work times? I found most places have a free beer or coffee event once a week where people actually talk. The trick is to go to a spot that's known for digital nomads, not just freelancers grinding solo.

the_miles said "social hours" - but tbh in my experience those things are SUPER hit or miss. I've been to like six different ones and half the time people just grab their free beer and STILL stare at their phones. Hostels definitely force conversation more because you're literally sleeping in the same room as strangers.
