Hot take: I stopped booking Airbnbs in Medellin and started asking hostel desk staff where to rent instead
After getting burned on a $900 monthly Airbnb in Laureles last January (the wifi died every afternoon at 3pm, like clockwork), I started just walking into hostels and asking the front desk guy if he knew anyone renting. One guy at a place in Poblado pulled out a notebook and called his cousin, and two days later I had a room for $280 a month with the router literally in my room. The part that got me was he didn't want any commission, he just said the Airbnb listings make the neighborhood feel like a hotel and not a barrio. It's not a system you can scale, but has anyone else had luck going through hostel staff instead of the apps?
