Hotel coworking spaces are getting way too loud for actual work
I spent three days at a Marriott in Lisbon last week and the 'business center' was basically a coffee shop with people on Zoom calls yelling over each other. The wifi dropped out twice during a client meeting because too many people were streaming video. Has anyone found a decent way to scope out quiet work spots in hotels before you book?

Oh man, YES. This is happening everywhere now, not just Marriott. I was at a Hyatt in Chicago last month and the "workspace" was literally a row of tables next to the bar. People were having full-on client calls while someone blended margaritas three feet away. It's like hotels are calling it a coworking space just to charge more, but putting zero thought into noise control. I've started calling the hotel directly before booking and asking if their business area has private booths or phone rooms. If they sound confused or say "it's an open area," I know to look elsewhere. Have you tried asking hotels specifically about soundproofing or designated quiet zones before you book?

Has anyone actually gotten a straight answer from a hotel about this stuff? I feel like every time I call they just say "we have a business center" and hang up. That's a good tip about asking for "quiet zones" specifically, though. I bet if enough people start pushing back on these fake coworking spaces, hotels might actually put some money into proper soundproofed phone booths instead of just throwing a few chairs in a hallway.

holy crap wait, they actually had people taking client calls right next to a blender? @lucasschmidt that's wild, i would've just walked out and asked for a refund on the spot.
