I thought the whole 'digital nomad visa' thing was a scam until I tried Portugal's D7

For years I rolled my eyes at people talking about these visas, thinking it was just a way for governments to get money from clueless tourists. Then my buddy in Lisbon showed me his paperwork and his actual residency card, which he got after proving about $800 a month in regular income. The process took him 4 months start to finish, and now he's legally there for a year with a path to renew. It completely changed my view on making a base in Europe without the 90-day tourist shuffle. Has anyone else had a visa experience that totally surprised them?

Honestly makes you wonder how many other countries have quiet, legit programs like that.

Spain's non lucrative visa is another quiet option with similar income rules.
