Is it smarter to rent long term or keep hopping when your income dips? My 3 year test says...
Back in March I was riding high in Chiang Mai, booking a new Airbnb every 10 days. Then my main client cut my hours, and I spent 2 weeks scrambling in a $40/night room with a broken AC just to keep my deposit refunds alive. Last month in Lisbon I finally tried the opposite, signed a 3 month lease for $900 total, and it felt way more stable but I missed the flexibility when a cheap flight to Bali popped up. So which wins for you guys when the money gets tight, the freedom to chase low costs or the security of a fixed base? I'm genuinely torn after living both ways in the last 90 days.

That "brain turns to absolute mush" part hit me hard because I've been there. When money gets tight, my head goes straight to panic mode and I make the dumbest calls, like booking a place sight unseen just because it was cheap. That $900 Lisbon lease does sound like a steal, but I get the Bali FOMO too. The broken AC thing though, man, I would've been right there with you crying in the shower. It's brutal when you're trying to stretch every dollar and the universe just kicks you in the teeth. I don't think there's a perfect answer, it's just picking which kind of stress you can handle that month.

Maybe it's just me but my brain turns to absolute mush whenever I try to plan more than two weeks ahead. The broken AC situation sounds like my personal nightmare, I would have just cried in the shower and accepted the loss. That $900 lease in Lisbon sounds like a steal though, even if it means missing a Bali flight. Idk, when money gets tight I always end up making the worst choice anyway, like booking a hostel next to a construction site. The real answer is probably some middle ground but my track record says I'll keep flip flopping forever.
