It took a lost client for me to see my biggest mistake as a digital nomad

I had been hopping coworking spaces across Thailand for two years, always picking the cheapest option without checking if they had a backup internet line. Last month in Chiang Mai, the main line went down for six hours and I missed a video call with a client who never came back. Has anyone else learned this lesson the hard way, or do you always pay extra for a space with dual internet?

Damn man, that sucks. Two years of cheaping out and then one bad day costs you a client. I lost a gig in Bali last year because the coworking spot I was at had a power surge that fried my laptop. Never even thought about backup internet lines until reading this. Now I always ask the front desk before I pay for a day pass if they have a backup connection or a generator. Its a pain to ask but way less painful than losing work. Hope you find a better setup in Chiang Mai soon.

Oh man, power surge got your laptop? That’s rough. I had a friend who was housesitting in Austin and their place had a generator that kicked on during a storm, but it fried the modem instead. Guess that’s what happens when the backup power hits the wrong spot. Now I check the outlets before I plug anything in, like I’m a detective on a crime show.

Crappy timing on that surge, right when you're trying to work remote. @the_spencer probably knows that feeling too well from that Bali coworking spot. Guess we all learn the hard way that backup plans are just as important as the main ones, huh?
