Just realized my digital nomad life has turned me into a pro liar at border control

Explaining my 'leisure trip' to customs while my laptop buzzes with work emails is my new normal.

Honestly that whole visa dance sounds so messy. PatriciaM51 is right about the risk, it reminds me of my cousin who got pulled aside in Toronto because his bag was stuffed with protein bars and three power banks. They made him empty everything right there, and his freelance graphic design contracts fell out between his socks. Took two hours of explaining before they let him through, and now he just stays in one country for a full six months to avoid it. Guy's still figuring it out.

Border control checks are no joke, and lying can get you in real trouble. What kind of visa are you using for these trips, or do you just hope they don't check too hard? I've heard stories of people getting banned for working on tourist visas. It seems risky to build a life around bending the rules like that. Have you ever been caught, or do you have a plan if you are? The stress alone would make me rethink how I handle travel.

Watched my buddy get pulled aside in Amsterdam for having too many entry stamps from Bali. Like @patriciam51 said, they asked him to show his bank account on the spot and scanned his laptop for work apps. He cracked under pressure and confessed to taking client calls, so they stamped his passport with a strict warning. What do you guys tell border agents to avoid that mess?
