Just realized the 'slow travel is best' crowd is wrong for me, and a guy in Lisbon said it straight
Everyone on here keeps saying stay a month or two in each city, and I believed it for a while. Last fall I booked 5 weeks in Lisbon, and by day 10 I was climbing the walls. My landlord there, a guy named Rui, came by to fix a window and saw me pacing on the balcony at 9am. He asked what was wrong and I told him I felt stuck. He laughed and said, 'You tourists come here to sit still. I would go crazy too.' That hit me harder than any blog post about slow travel ever did. I finished the month but booked a week in Porto and a few days in Coimbra, and I felt like myself again. Turns out moving around every 7 to 10 days works better for my head, even if it is more work with trains and keys. Does anyone else just not enjoy staying put for a month, or is it only me?
