Overheard a guy in a coworking space say he's been in 30 countries this year
I was grabbing coffee at this coworking spot in Lisbon last Tuesday and I overheard this guy on a call saying he's been to 30 countries just this year. He was talking about how he only stays 3 days in each place and moves on. It made me think, like are we actually living the lifestyle or just collecting passport stamps? I don't know, 30 countries sounds exhausting to me but maybe I'm missing something. Has anyone else found a good balance between moving around and actually settling into one place for a bit?

Hold up, 30 countries? I can barely remember where I put my keys half the time. @drewgonzalez makes a fair point about the roofs though, someone's gotta keep those things shingled while the rest of us are zipping through airports. But seriously, 3 days per country sounds like a blur of security lines and hotel breakfast buffets. I stayed in a tiny town in Mexico for two weeks last spring and I still barely scratched the surface of the local taco scene. Maybe I'm old fashioned but what's the point of seeing 30 places if you can't even remember what you ate for dinner in each one?

Listen up Drew, I've been in your shoes. Spend enough years bouncing between countries and you figure out the secret: pick a home base and stick with it for a few months at a time. @miles_young59 is right about the blur, trust me. You do 30 countries in a year and you'll be lucky to remember what the airport bathrooms looked like. Better to dig into one place, get to know the locals, and actually soak it in. Saves you money on flights too, which means more tacos for everyone.
