Seeing someone from Lisbon in a Bali cafe was a weird moment

It hit me that our paths cross more than I expected. Now I always say hi to other nomads, because you never know where you'll meet again.

Yeah I started doing that after I kept bumping into the same guy from a Lisbon hostel. First in Lisbon, then months later in Mexico City. We just said a quick hello the first time, but the second time we ended up grabbing dinner. Now I make a point to just introduce myself, even if it's just for a minute. It's crazy how small the digital nomad circles get.

Calling digital nomad circles "small" might be missing the point. It's more that everyone flocks to the same few spots, like Lisbon or Mexico City. You see the same faces because those places are hubs, not because the community is tiny. I've run into people in three different countries, all in popular coworking spots.

My buddy Jake ran into a woman he knew from Berlin in a small town in Portugal. They had first met at a coworking space in Berlin six months before. It was so random, but it totally fits what @miles_garcia said about everyone going to the same hubs. Jake told me they ended up sharing a ride to Lisbon since they were both going there. It's funny how these connections keep popping up in different places.
