Serious question, my hostel wifi in Medellin died mid client call and I finished the call from a taco stand
The router in my room at Casa Kiwi gave out 10 minutes into a Zoom with a client, so I grabbed my laptop and walked two blocks to a taco spot with open wifi and took the rest of the call from a corner table. The client never noticed, but I did buy 3 tacos out of guilt and now I always carry a backup SIM. Anyone else got a story about a call that went sideways because of bad hostel internet?
The part about buying 3 tacos out of guilt is funny but come on, taking a client call from a taco stand is a terrible idea. Open wifi at a random food spot is a security nightmare, you're basically handing your work login to whoever runs that router, and if that client ever found out they'd wonder what else you're sloppy about. Plus you got lucky the noise didn't blow it, taco stands are not quiet and a client hearing a blender and Spanish chatter in the background is not a good look. The real lesson here isn't carry a backup SIM, it's don't book hostels with junk wifi if you're working on the road, pay for a coworking spot or a proper room. Blaming the hostel is easy, but you picked the setup.
