Serious question, tried a hostel in Lisbon for 3 weeks then a $700 apartment in Chiang Mai, and the cheap one won
I booked a bunk in a 6 person dorm in Lisbon for 3 weeks back in March and it wrecked me. Not the people, they were fine, but I never got a single solid block of work done because someone was always coming in at 2am or rustling plastic bags at 7am. The wifi also died every time more than 4 of us were on it, so I was doing client calls from a cafe down the street and burning $9 a day on coffee just to sit there. Then I moved to Chiang Mai and paid $700 for a full one bedroom with a desk, a door I could shut, and fiber that never once dropped. My output basically doubled in the first two weeks, I finished a project I had been behind on for a month, and honestly I was sleeping way better too. The funny part is the total cost was close to the same once I added up the cafe coffees and the coworking day passes in Lisbon. So now I'm wondering if I ever go back to hostels at all, or if that ship has just sailed for me. Has anyone here made the dorm vs apartment call and gone the other direction?
