Showerthought: I took the cheapest Chiang Mai co-working pass at $65 and got more done than the $230 one
I was in Chiang Mai for six weeks and tried the budget pass at a small spot off Nimman for 2,900 baht, mostly because I wanted to prove the fancy places were a waste. What I did not expect was that the loud street noise and the plastic chairs kept me from sinking into that comfortable all-day grazing mode. At the expensive place I was chatting, refilling coffee, and pretending to work for 9 hours straight. At the cheap one I got in, did 4 solid hours, and left because it was too uncomfortable to linger. My actual output went up by maybe 30 percent, and I finished a client project two days early. Has anyone else noticed that the nicest co-working spaces are the worst for actually getting work done?
Shower thoughts are real but its not about comfort its about being bored. Your brain finally has nothing to do so it starts wandering. Same thing happens on long drives or when youre waiting somewhere with no phone. My best ideas used to hit me on the bus back when i had a 40 min ride every day. Now i drive and listen to podcasts and never have a single good thought. So maybe the trick isnt being uncomfortable, its being bored.
