That €200 'Ergonomic' Chair I Bought in Chiang Mai Broke After 2 Months

I thought I was being smart buying a cheap ergonomic office chair from a shop on Nimman Road here in Chiang Mai. Spent about 200 euros on it, seemed sturdy enough, and it felt fine for the first month. Then the gas lift failed and now I'm sitting on a stack of pillows at this coworking space. Has anyone found a decent chair in Southeast Asia that doesn't fall apart?

Yeah but did you actually test the gas lift before buying? I've learned the hard way that cheap chairs in Thailand are basically made from hopes and dreams. The foam feels nice for a week then turns into a concrete slab. You really need to sit on them for 15 minutes minimum in the store to check for hidden flaws. Next time look for chairs with a visible steel base instead of that plastic coated crap. Those 200 euro chairs are often just rebranded Chinese junk with a fancy sticker slapped on.

I mean come on, 15 minutes in a store testing a chair? Who actually does that in real life. You're acting like we're buying a car or something. Most people just sit down for a few seconds, say "feels fine," and move on. And honestly, the whole "cheap chairs have bad foam" thing gets blown way out of proportion. I've had a 150 euro chair from some random shop for three years now and it's still fine. Not great but it holds up. You make it sound like every budget chair is a ticking time bomb that'll fall apart on day two. Maybe you just got unlucky with a bad batch or something. Not everyone needs a steel base and laboratory testing to sit at their desk for a few hours.
