The "slow travel is best" crowd is wrong for me, and a guy in Lisbon said it straight
Last month I was in Lisbon, sitting at a tiny cafe in Alfama, and this older guy from Toronto started talking to me about how he's been traveling for 12 years. I told him I do the opposite of slow travel: I hop cities every 10 days or so, and he said, "That sounds exhausting, but at least you're honest about it." He told me he tried the fast pace for a year and hated it, but he sees a lot of people forcing the slow travel thing because it's what the blogs say. That hit different because I've been trying to convince myself I should stay in one place for 3 months like everyone says. But I get bored after 2 weeks, and I end up working more just to fill the time. I told him I'd rather see 4 cities in a month and feel alive than sit in a co-working space in Medellin for 90 days pretending to love it. He laughed and said, "At least you know what you want." Now I'm curious: how many of you actually prefer fast travel but feel pressured to slow down?
