TIL the 90 day rule for booking flights out of Medellin saved me almost $400
Last month I was about to drop $520 on a one way from Medellin to Mexico City for early December and my roommate told me to just wait. I hate waiting. I like having the next flight locked in so I can sleep at night. But he kept bugging me about it, so I pulled up the prices every single morning for a week and watched them move. What I figured out is that anything booked more than 90 days out gets priced like a tourist, but once you're inside 60 to 45 days the same seat drops hard because the airlines are trying to fill the plane. I booked at day 51 and paid $135. Same airline, same route, same bag. The catch is you have to be flexible on the exact date and you can't panic buy when it spikes on a Tuesday for no reason. I use a simple spreadsheet now with the price every day and it takes me two minutes with coffee. The hard part is trusting it when you're sitting in a hostel with no plan. Anyone else do the daily price check thing or do you just eat the cost for peace of mind?
