A stranger in the UPS store corrected my diploma frame choice and saved me $60

Last Tuesday I was in the UPS store in Columbus, Ohio getting a framed certificate for my HR certification. I picked this nice black metal frame, felt classy. The guy next to me, older dude, waiting for a package, just goes 'you know that frame has a glare issue under office lights, right?' I shrugged. He showed me a matte one with a UV coating, same price. I switched on a whim. Three days later at my desk under overhead fluorescents, no glare at all. My old one wouldve been a mirror. He said he used to frame diplomas for a law firm and saw people return the shiny ones all the time. Anyone else had a random stranger save them from a small but annoying mistake?

You know, that "glare issue" thing is a pretty clever sales pitch. But honestly, most offices have blinds or you can just angle the frame a little. I've got a glossy frame on my wall right now under a ceiling light and it's fine unless the sun hits it at the exact wrong time, which is like 15 minutes a day. Also, that UV coating is marketing fluff unless your diploma is sitting in direct sunlight for hours. And let's be real, if HR certification is that important, you're not staring at it all day. I bet that older guy was just killing time and wanted to feel useful. You swapped a frame that looked good to you for one some stranger pushed, and now you're thanking him for a problem you never had.
