Watching a panel debate flip a student's mind in 20 minutes

Last month I sat in on a diploma mill awareness panel at the city library, and a woman changed her view on online degrees after hearing three employers say they filter resumes by accreditation. She had been pushing her son toward a $400 quick certificate that wouldn't even qualify for a job listing. Has anyone else seen a single conversation rewrite someone's whole education plan?

My own kid once talked me out of a timeshare in about ten minutes, so I guess I am the flip side of that story. What got me was the plain math the employers laid out. One said they run every resume through a filter that checks for school accreditation before a human ever sees it, so a cheap certificate just gets tossed in the trash. Twenty minutes of real talk can beat twenty years of stubborn, at least in my house.
