Had to decide between a cheap fix and a proper fix for my leaky bathroom faucet

My bathroom faucet has been dripping for like 3 months and I finally got sick of it. Went to the hardware store and stood there staring at a $5 rubber washer kit vs a $45 new faucet assembly. I cheaped out with the washers and now it's dripping worse than before, so I gotta ask, how many of you have learned this lesson the hard way too?

oh man i did the exact same thing with my kitchen sink last year, bought the cheap o-ring kit and ended up flooding the cabinet under the sink three days later.

Did you try torquing it down a little tighter after the first leak? Sometimes the cheap kits work fine if you really crank the nut past where you think it should go. I've had good luck with them myself, though I always keep a spare towel nearby just in case.

Crank it past where it should go? That's how I busted my last plastic supply line. Sent water spraying everywhere at 3am. Woke up to a roommate screaming. The cheap kit didn't fail, the pipe did. Now I just buy the brass fittings.
