I think everyone is wrong about waterproof grout for showers
I was at a tile supply shop in Portland last month and the sales guy kept pushing this expensive waterproof grout. People online swear by it but I noticed it cracked in my 3 year old shower install. I finally pulled out a piece and the moisture was trapped behind it making the wall soft. Regular sanded grout with a good sealer has held up way better in my other bathroom for 7 years now. Anyone else see waterproof grout fail like this?

Heard a buddy swear by that stuff too, put it in his new build and it was flaking off within a year. He ended up ripping it all out and going back to regular grout and sealer.

My parents' quartz countertops started etching from vinegar last year, and same story - fancy hype over basic stuff.

Casey did your buddy have cement board behind that grout or was it just green drywall? That trapped moisture had to go somewhere.
