Just realized painting my hallway took half the time it used to

I was painting my hallway this weekend. Used to take all day with my dad's old brushes. They would shed bristles and leave streaks. Now with these new synthetic rollers, it goes on smooth and quick. I remember helping my dad as a kid, and it was a messy, all-day affair. Makes me wonder if the old way was more satisfying somehow. Do you guys ever feel like new tools take the fun out of DIY? Or is it just me being nostalgic? Looking for thoughts on balancing speed with the hands-on feel.

My friend's dad still uses his lumpy old brush, and she says fixing his streaks is their weird bonding time, which @janar63 might understand.

Oh man, I totally get that feeling. Using my grandpa's clunky tools always made a simple fix into a whole event, and now it's just... done. What do you think was the real satisfaction back then, the time spent together or the hands-on struggle of it? Like, does a perfect finish from a roller feel less earned somehow? I catch myself missing the mess even though I love saving time.

Right, because nothing says quality family time like covering up your dad's mistakes with a fresh coat of paint... Sounds like a real bonding experience, haha.

Was the fun in the fight, not the finish?
